On 13th July 2011 I received a letter to say that I had been successful and that as from September 1st 2011 I would be an English Trainee on the Graduate Teacher Programme.
Since then I have been to visit my placement school, where I will spend the majority of my training year. I will be working in the English department and everyone that I met, including my mentor is very friendly and seem excited about my arrival. I was also given core texts which I am going to be teaching in the following year so I have some serious reading to do.
On Friday 22nd July was quite a significant day for me. It was the day that I finished at one school and the day I received my first assignment. Scary stuff! I've received my assignment guidelines, assignment feedback record, and the assignment itself. The title of the assignment is: "Everyone is born with a tremendous exploratory spirit, but some more than others have this inquiring inquisitiveness, getting into everything, a tenaciousness that lends itself to a growth mindset." Carol Dweck. What do you think is the role of the teacher in ensuring that the exploratory spirit of all learners is fully developed? Argh! Where do I start? I guess the reading list might give me some indication, but there I was naively thinking that I might get an easy 6 week holiday. Lets crack on with it then...
